Cardinals top Lee College, 84-69

Outscoring Lee College 29-5 in the final 10 minutes of the first half, the Cardinals overcame a slow start and went on to cruise to an 84-69 Region XIV Conference victory Monday night at Cardinal Gym.

The win boosted Coach Guy Furr’s squad to 14-2 on the year and 5-0 in the conference.

The Cardinals are scheduled to travel Wednesday to Brenham to face Blinn in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. Saturday, the Cardinals are at home against San Jacinto in a 4 p.m. start.

Wendell Mitchell drilled 23 points, including five three-pointers, to lead the scoring for the Cardinals.

Damari Parris added 18 points, followed by Andres Ibarguen with 12 and Yildon Mendoza 10.

The Cardinals hit 11 three-pointers.

The Cardinals, who trailed 23-14 with 10 minutes left in the opening half, led 42-28 at the half.

Lee dropped to 7-9 and 1-4 with the loss.

With the win, the Cardinals are now 29-4 in their last 33 games against South Zone teams.
