Obituary: Sam DuBose

Sam DuBoseServices for Sam DuBose, 64, of Mabank, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday May 6, 2013 at Eubank Chapel with Pastor Mike Roberson, Bro. Ronnie Daniell officiating, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.

Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mabank.

He passed away May 3, 2013 in Dallas.

Mr. DuBose was born March 1, 1949 in Dallas to Joel and Imodene Gore DuBose.

Sam was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton and a former member of Elm Grove Church. He grew up in Grand Prairie where he graduated and attended Dallas Baptist College. He loved baseball, Elvis, fishing and his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Nancy DuBose of Mabank; daughter, Angela DuBose of Mabank; daughter, Jana and Steven Taylor of Ben Wheeler; granddaughters, Samantha and Julianna Taylor of Ben Wheeler; sister, Sharon and Kirk Evans of Wills Point; sister, Sherrie Furguson of Grand Prairie; sister, Sarah Tucker and Eddie Ashford of Grand Prairie; aunt, Helen Hannah of The Colony; Bro-in-Heart, Jerry Lambert of Okla.;  a host of in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins nieces, nephews and friends.

Joel was preceded in death by his father, Joel DuBose; mother, Imodene DuBose; in-laws, Lewis and Aileen Gray.

Pallbearers are Ken Collins, Aaron Evans, Chris Evans, T J Gray, Guy Taylor, Issac Horton, Terry Kennedy, Jerry Lambert, Merritt Shephard, and Bobby Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Crawford, Sears Line Hual, Wal-Mart Drivers-Palestine, Victory Sunday School Class-FB Canton.

Family will receive friends Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Obituary: Lenora Faulkner

Service for Lenora Faulkner, 71, of Tool will be held Monday, 2 p.m. May 6, 2013 at Huckabee Tomlinson Funeral Home Seven Points with Bro. Floyd Loven officiating. Lenora was born in Wichita Falls to William Scott and Viola (Heard) Fretwell, October 24, 1941 and died in Tool May 2, 2013.

She was a beautician by trade and worked in Seven Points for several years.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by daughters, Jennifer Ross and Joanna and husband Laney Paslay; sons Lynn Henry Toth and wife Maria, Samuel Frank Faulkner and wife Susan; five grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.

Obituary: Jerry L. Gentry

Graveside services for Jerry L. Gentry, 74, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Land of Memory Cemetery in Palestine. The services will be officiated by Bro. Frankie Wright and Bro. Tommy Derden.

Mr. Gentry passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 in Athens.

Jerry Leon Gentry was born July 19, 1938 in Dallas, the son of Althon Gentry and Jessie Herrington Gentry. He was a member of the Full Gospel Lighthouse Church of Palestine. Jerry enjoyed making tapes and taking photo’s. He loved riding his bike and once rode in a marathon bike race. He was a great friend and family member and will be missed by all he knew and loved.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving caretakers and special friends; Betty Miller, William Miller, James Wright, Donald Wright, Janice Rutledge, Tommy Derden and Margie Derden

TVCC Lady Cards headed to national tournament

Utah bound!

The Lady Cardinals made school history Saturday, clinching the school’s first-ever national tournament berth with a third straight win in the Region XIV Tournament in Corsicana.

Coach Ashley Johnston’s squad defeated eighth-ranked Galveston (8-2), Blinn (3-2) and Paris (7-5) to punch a ticket to St. George, Utah for the national tournament May 15-18.

The Lady Cardinals went on to finish second in the tournament, falling twice to Paris in the championship games. Paris was an 8-2 winner in the first game and took a 5-4 nine-inning decision in the second.

The Lady Cardinals will carry a 33-25 record to the national tournament.

National tournament pairings will be announced this weekend after all regional tournament play has concluded.

Other schools joining the Lady Cardinals and Paris as qualifiers to this point are Georgia Perimeter College, Pitt Community College (North Carolina), Pima Community College (Arizona), Santa Fe College (Florida) and Chipola College (Florida).

TVCC headed to Regional championship game, national tournament

The Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals — who entered the Region XIV Softball Tournament as underdogs and who had never won a tournament game — won their third straight game Saturday and are now guaranteed a trip to the National Championship Tournament in Utah.

TVCC beat Paris Saturday, 7-5. Earlier in the tournament, the girls beat both Blinn and nationally-ranked Galveston.

The Lady Cards will play in the Regional championship game tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at Navarro College. Their opponent is to be determined.

The national tournament will be May 15-18 in St. George, Utah.
