Auctioneer Battle at HCPAC

HCPACPress release

The gauntlet has been thrown down. “I challenge the professional auctioneer, Kenny Stowe, to raise more money than I do,” declared Jeff Weinstein.

The auction at which Mr. Stowe and Mr. Weinstein will be ‘celebrity guest auctioneers’ is the annual Goodies Auction at Henderson County Performing Arts Center during the youth production of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.” Each performance will have an auction of baked goodies and other homemade items donated by locals to benefit the Performing Arts Center.

“It is one of our biggest Fund Raising events of the year,” said Executive Director Marcia Colbert. “Being a non-profit, we have several fund raising events every year but this one is always a lot of fun because of the kids and the friendly competition going on among the bidders.”

Bakers are also vying to see whose dessert will bring the highest price.

Kenneth Stowe, owner of Xtreme Auction Services in Athens, is also a regular on the A&E Network program Texas Storage Wars. Mr. Stowe donates his time and auctioneering talents to help raise money for charitable organizations. “When I heard Mr. Stowe helps non-profits, I wanted to see if I could get him involved with our auction to bring even more excitement to the event.”

Stowe was not available for all eight auctions, prompting Ms. Colbert to ask Mr. Weinstein, Charles Tidmore and Dr. Mark Roberts to participate, as well. “The idea was to get local celebrities involved,” Colbert explained. “Then Jeff threw out the challenge that he could raise more than the professional. It’s all in good fun.”

The auctions will take place during Intermissions of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Performances are December 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30pm, as well as December 7 and 13 at 2:00pm.

Reservations are strongly suggested as the Youth productions usually sell out quickly. Tickets are available at 903.675.3908 or online at www.HCPAC.org. HCPAC is a 501c3 non-profit organization located at 400 Gibson Rd., Athens, TX.
