The City of Athens, through its Department of Tourism, will host a downtown assessment on Friday, July 31.

The assessment will be conducted by the Texas Downtown Association and will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Athens Partnership Center located at 201 W. Corsicana Street.

The assessment will consist of a five-member team of TDA board members and member cities from the North East Texas region.

The assessment will begin with team members hearing from downtown stakeholders, City officials and other community leaders about the concerns, issues and ideas related to downtown. Afterwards, the assessment team will walk downtown and visit with downtown business and property owners and reconvene in the afternoon to report their initial findings. A final report will be made available to the City and will include short term, intermediate and long term projects and goals.

The Texas Downtown Association was officially formed in 1985 and today represents more than 450-member cities who are committed to downtown revitalization.
