City of Athens press release

The City of Athens has announced the 2014 Christmas Parade entry forms and packet are now available. The annual Christmas Parade, sponsored by the City of Athens, will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Christmas Parade entry forms and packet can be picked up at City Hall and are available on the City’s website at www.AthensTexas.us.

The name of the 2014 Christmas Parade is “Christmas Around the Square” and parade entries are encouraged to decorate their float with the Christmas theme. Although the theme will not be a part of the judging criteria, parade entries will be judged on creativity and appearance.

Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners, sponsored by Republic Services and Kevin Lilly’s McDonald’s. The first place winner will receive $500, second place $300 and third place $200.

The entry fee is $20, except marching bands and drill teams who will not be required to pay an entry fee. The Christmas Parade will be limited to the first 100 entries and the City recommends registering early to insure a place in the parade. The deadline to register for the Christmas Parade is Monday, Dec. 1.
