AISD board hears fiscal audit report

October is National Principals Month, when we honor the hard work and dedication of our hardworking campus leaders. “We have 13 of the absolute finest campus-level leaders anywhere around,” said Athens ISD Assistant Superinendent Dr. Janie Sims during Monday night’s regular board of trustees meeting. Members of the Athens ISD Board of Trustees were presented with a review of the district’s annual fiscal year audit report during the recent regular meeting.

“The report is very positive,” said J.W. Lambright of the local accounting firm Smith, Lambright & Associates.

The report indicated that Athens ISD’s general fund balance is very strong and appropriate for the district’s routine operations. The fund balance at fiscal year end, June 30, 2016, increased compared to the previous year.

“We always work to thoughtfully manage the taxpayer resources,” said Chief Financial Officer Randy Jones. “Those numbers reflect the continued conservative financial management philosophy of the district. … The balance increase is a result of careful management of expenditures, and higher revenues than anticipated from property taxes and the federal Student Health and Related Services program.”

In keeping with October being National Principals Month, trustees also recognized the administrative leadership teams from each of the district’s five campuses.

“I can’t think of another group of people who are pulled in more different ways,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Janie Sims. “They’re responsible to their parents, all staff, all students, community members and you (the board of trustees). … We have 13 of the absolute finest campus-level leaders anywhere around.”
