AHS students head to state in FCCLA

The Athens High School Chapter of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) attended their regional conference in Waco Feb. 10, and three students will advance to the state meet. Irais Hernandez and Josephine Miles placed fifth and sixth respectively in the mystery basket event, and both were given scholarships from Johnson and Wales University. In the competition, 20 students from different schools were provided with a steak, a pear and an avocado and asked to create a plate. In addition, Miles won a silver for the Family and Consumer Sciences Assessments (FCSA) etiquette test, and Heriberto Campa won a silver in the FCSA step-one test, which poses questions about the FCCLA program. Hernandez, Miles and Campa qualified for the state competition in Dallas April 4-7.
