The Athens Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) approved economic incentives Tuesday morning to bring San Jose, California-based HVAC Manufacturing, Inc. to Athens.
AEDC Executive Director Lisa Denton said the company is expected to create 25 jobs over the next five years and bring nearly $1 million in personal property and inventory to the city’s tax base. “They are good people,” said AEDC Board President Jess Laird.
The company will be at the former Harry’s Building Materials location at 1010 West Corsicana Street.
The incentives approved by the AEDC board include providing a lease-purchase plan for the property, a $75,000 jobs incentive, and about $320,000 to help with getting the building ready for the company.
“This is our first deal since Lisa came on board with us,” said Laird. “It started before she got here, but she carried it through.”
The Athens City Council must approve the incentives to finalize the deal, but that is expected to happen Wednesday night.
“We are very excited,” said Mayor Jerry Don Vaught. “It will make that area look a lot better and we are getting an outstanding company.”
