For 27 years, Portia Hill’s single-game rebounding record of 29 withstood the test of time.

No longer.

Sophomore forward Leashja “LeeLee” Grant turned in a 31-rebound performance Wednesday night at Cardinal Gym to become the record holder for the Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cardinals.

Grant had 19 defensive and 12 offensive rebounds to go along with a team-high 24 points to lead the third-ranked Lady Cardinals to a 69-43 win against Coastal Bend Community College.

The 6-2 native of the Bahamas also had a steal and a block as the Lady Cardinals improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in Region XIV Conference.

Hill’s record-setting performance was against Blinn in 1988, a game in which she set a school for single-game scoring with 50. That record was eclipsed by Shlonte’ Allen last year. Allen had 52 against Panola.

Jazmine Spears had 17 points in the win and Charsima Matlock 10. Maya Singleton finished with nine.

The Lady Cardinals have now won 63 straight at home and 59 in the conference.

Next up for the Lady Cardinals is a trip Saturday to Carthage to face Panola. Game time is 4 p.m.
