20 Cardinals sign with 4-year universities

Press release

Leading the nation in mid-year football signees is nothing new for the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals. It’s been that way for the better part of the last decade.

With 20 having recently signed to continue their education/playing career at D1/D2 universities, the Cardinals are well on their way at staying on top.

“We are very proud of the fact we move our kids on to the next level,” said first-year head coach Sherard Poteete. “No one in Texas is doing what we do.

“If a kid is looking for a place to win a championship, earn a degree and move on to the next level, we believe Trinity Valley is the place to be.”

The list of 2017 mid-year signees includes 15 Cardinals moving on to D1 universities.

Of note, three, Shelton Eppler (QB), Khalil Corbett-Canada (OL) and Blake Stephenson (LB), are following former head coach Brad Smiley to Northwestern State, where he will serve as offensive coordinator.

Poteete said there would likely be other signings before the spring semester begins, as well as on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
